NASHVILLE, Tenn. - September 30, 2022 - (Newswire.com)

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, country newcomer Valerie Ponzio releases her debut EP FRONTERA today across all digital streaming platforms. The four-track project features three original songs as well as a traditional country cover of Latina icon Selena's "I Could Fall In Love." Drawing inspiration from her hometown pride and bringing awareness to the culture of border (frontera) towns, Ponzio continues to prove she is "dedicated to broadening the boundaries of country music and helping pave the way into the genre for other Latin artists'' (CMT.com). As part of the inaugural class of CMT and mtheory's Equal Access program, her new video for "Desert Rain," also out today, will be highlighted in NYC's Times Square. The video, directed by Raul Hernandez and shot in El Paso, TX, showcases a picturesque desert landscape with striking scenes of Ponzio expressing the lyrics to the emotional track.

"Growing up in West Texas you almost take for granted the unique sensation that comes over when you experience desert rain," shares Ponzio. "I've always wanted to capture that in a song and I finally did with "Desert Rain.'"

The new project features her "promising new release" (Billboard) "Just A Bordertown." The track's accompanying music video features the barrier-breaking artist, who The Nash News praised for the "art she produces within her music," reflecting on her roots with compelling illustrations of the hard-working town that built her laced with the imagery of the border wall that divides the United States and Mexico. It also features an "upbeat love song," "Órale," that "celebrates her hometown of El Paso." (El Paso Times).

  1. Desert Rain (Valerie Ponzio and Danny Myrick)
  2. Just A Bordertown (Valerie Ponzio, David Andrew Borys, and Andrew Peebles)

Since being catapulted into the spotlight by her show-stopping turn on The Voice, Ponzio has made it her mission to shatter every precedent set for Latin artists in the world of country music. Hailing from El Paso, Texas, she has become a pioneer for a new wave of inclusivity in Nashville. Her song "Little Obsessed" was described by The Washington Post as a song "everyone should know," Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine called her "the most well-rounded singer…that I think I've ever heard," and Rolling Stone has enthusiastically praised her as "Channeling Dolly Parton and Janis Joplin." Dedicated to blending Latin sounds with country music's traditions, backed up by indomitable vocals, Ponzio is that rarest of things: something brand new in Music City.
