Living Out Palm Springs Honors LGBTQ+ Leaders on Stonewall Day

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., June 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Living Out Palm Springs will host a special event on June 28 to honor Stonewall Day by recognizing four iconic LGBTQ+ trailblazers: Carl Bean, Connie Norman, Phyllis Lyon, and Del Martin. In tribute to their groundbreaking contributions to LGBTQ+ equality, Living Out will name its residential neighborhoods after each of these heroes.

Carl Bean, gospel artist and founder of the Unity Fellowship Church Movement, created a spiritual home for LGBTQ+ individuals within Christianity. Connie Norman, a fierce transgender and AIDS activist, championed rights for marginalized communities. Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin were the first same-sex couple legally married in California and co-founded the Daughters of Bilitis, the first lesbian rights organization in the U.S. Together, their legacy of courage and advocacy continues to inspire.

“We are honored to recognize these pioneers, whose lives made Living Out possible,” said Loren Ostrow, developer and visionary behind Living Out. “Their stories inspire unity, resilience, and pride—values we hold dear.”

The naming ceremony begins at 1 PM and welcomes press and invited guests. At 2 PM, the Art Walk opens to the public, featuring over 300 original works by LGBTQ+ artists from the Coachella Valley and beyond. This rotating exhibit showcases artistic expression and community connection.

Guests can enjoy valet parking and festive refreshments at Alice B., Living Out’s signature restaurant and bar. In honor of Stonewall Day, a custom cocktail and beverages that celebrate LGBTQ+ culture will be served.

Located in the heart of Palm Springs, Living Out is a luxury 55+ community designed for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies. With resort-style amenities, a focus on connection, and a celebration of creativity and diversity, Living Out offers a welcoming and affirming lifestyle.
