Hick has always felt the pull to inspire others: "To further broaden her perspective, she was chosen by the local NAACP chapter to participate in an exchange student program in New York City in 1964. In this program, along with other students from around the country, she studied the world "Isms" and toured the United Nations where she visited the embassy of Africa and Spain. These early exposures to different people and places helped to imprint dreams and possibilities in Cora's mind about how big the world really is and how she could make a meaningful contribution to the world."
